Justin Magers & John Miller prayer requests and update

John Miller
John's condition continues to improve, and efforts to move him from critical to stable condition are either in process or expected in the next 12-24 hours. The sedation medications which have helped John stay unconscious are being gradually decreased since about noon India time (about midnight Central time.) John has opened his left eye, squeezed a hand when asked to and is definitely responsive though sedated. Currently, they are keeping him alone and peaceful so as not to overexcite him and suffer a setback. By tomorrow (in the next 12 hours or so) they are hoping he can be awake. Because John is required to stay immobile for the next six weeks in his pelvic brace (a kind of four-point vise which keeps his pelvic bones aligned) doctors are planning to install a filter in a major vein to his lungs. Blood clots due to low movement will increase over time. The filter would catch any blood clots which would decrease his lung functions or cause pulmonary embolisms. The ventilator which breathes for John is on its lowest setting, and doctors believe he could breathe for himself NOW if it were removed. They plan to take him off the ventilator in the next 12-24 hours and expect him to be able to breathe without assistance. No additional surgeries are planned at this time. Bob and Diane Miller were delayed by flight connections and are expected to arrive in India early Thursday morning.

If you would like to donate to the Miller family, call John's uncle, Troy Wilson, at 479-633-3836 or 479-443-3352.

Justin Magers The earliest Justin is expected to be in Tulsa is now Thursday. This is still an unconfirmed target date. Many of his Indian friends have come by the hospital to give their condolences and grieve with the team. A memorial service for Justin will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 23rd at First Baptist Church of Tulsa, 403 S Cincinnati Ave, Tulsa, OK 74103. More information and an online tribute will be available at http://www.moorefuneral.com.

If you would like to donate to the Magers family, you can send money to the First Baptist Church of Tulsa. The address is: 403 S. Cinncinnati Ave, Tulsa, Oklahoma 74103.

The Hyderabad Team (the brothers team in India) The team is finishing their first dinner and meeting together since the accident while Delhi team members stay with John at the hospital. The team has been with John around the clock in groups. Many of John's and Justin's Indian friends have been to the hospital to grieve with the team for Justin and to check on John. Other Ways to Help The team and the organization have been asked many times how people might help. The prayers have been felt by the families and by the team. Although everyone is getting tired, please continue to pray for everyone - especially the families. Regarding financial assistance below are some of the ongoing and expected costs associated with our challenges. The appropriate organization to receive tax deductible donations would be: International Cultural Exchange, P.O. Box 1025, Conway, AR 72033. Some of the costs are being borne directly by the families, and some are being absorbed by ICE as they occur. Some costs are paid by ICE or the families initially but then will eventually be reimbursed by insurance. While specific designations can be made within reason, it is most helpful if funds given to ICE are general and unrestricted. Any gifts will be used on the other side of the ocean in India and won't apply to stateside efforts of other organizations. Here are some categories: The medical care for John Miller is being paid for as it is incurred by ICEThe Hyderabad team is setting up the Millers at a hotel for the next foreseeable future.Flights to Hyderabad by Delhi team members in support of the Hyderabad team have been made.Team and individual meals as our people work through the task lists.Flights to India from America by personnel in support of the Hyderabad and Delhi teams.
